RECREATION COMMITTEE
The Spaniard’s Bay Recreation Commission is a volunteer organization dedicated to sport and other forms of recreation within our community. Our facilities include a 6000 sq. ft. recreation centre, baseball field, T-ball field, two outdoor basketball courts and a general playground area.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Early 1974, the Town of Spaniard’s Bay and some of its concerned citizens began planning for the formation of a volunteer fire department to protect the lives and property of the community. After much planning and determination, the first recorded meeting was held on 01 December 1974. At this meeting, the department was formed and from there, the work and dedication began. Today’s department consists of 30 members who devote their time and training to our community 24 hours a day, 7 days and week, 365 days a year.
Our first-response fire fighting equipment has grown substantially in the last 30 years, and constant fund-raising efforts must be maintained in order to keep up to the demand of this life saving equipment. Our team of volunteer firefighters are up to the challenge and invite you to drop by the Fire Hall when the doors are open for a visit. We will be glad to show you around.
HERITAGE COMMITTEE
The Municipality of Spaniard’s Bay Heritage Committee originally formed in 1996 changed its name to "Spaniard’s Bay Heritage Society" in 2005 under the leadership of Mr. Wesley Gosse.
It is now a member of the Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and of the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
he Society’s mandate is to research, collect, record, and interpret all items of historical relevance to the municipality of Spaniard’s Bay. These are displayed in the church for visitors to view and reminisce. Each summer students are hired as interpreters and are available to answer questions and have a chat.
